A 27-year-old woman died on her way home. May she rest in peace. Our condolences to her family.

At 11:40 p.m. on 19 September, she got off at Yuen Long MTR Station, rented a shared bicycle, and rode toward her home. At about 11:55 p.m., CCTV showed her being chased by three dogs on Pok Wai South Road, near the Nam Sang Wai sewage pumping station. At about 12:43 a.m. on 20 September, a passer-by found her lying on the pavement with the bicycle beside her. She was taken to Pok Oi Hospital and later died of her injuries.

Police later said the deceased was a local woman who lived with her family in Yuen Long and had no known medical history. Her wallet, phone and other belongings were intact. She had multiple lacerations to the head, face, neck and limbs. The fatal injuries were to the head and neck and are initially believed to have been caused by animal bites or scratches. About three to four stray dogs were seen nearby. The dogs involved have not yet been found. Police will work with the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department on a capture operation. The exact cause of death is pending autopsy.

Chased while cycling: stop, get off, place the frame between yourself and the dogs, and step back slowly side-on. Do not keep riding, and do not drop the bike and run.

Already on the ground: curl on your side, cover the back of your neck and head with both hands, and use a backpack or clothing as a shield. Do not lie on your back. Do not put your hands toward the dog’s mouth.
